One bedroom Holiday Apartment for Rent in the delightful village of Fodele on the Greek Island of Crete.  Located within easy reach of Fodele Beach and Heraklion Airport.  It is situated on a small development called Mandarin Grove in an elevated positon in the heart of Fodele, surrounded by its famous Orange Groves and is the birthplace of the famous Greek painter El Greco.

The village of Fodele is located 28km west of Iraklion and has a permanent population of 500 residents, located on the north coast of Crete, two miles from the sea .  Built on a hill it has wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.  It lies between the towns of Heraklion, the capital of Crete and Rethymnon and is surrounded by its famous orange groves  which covers an area of 3,000,000 sq.m.  It is also close to the popular resort of Agia Pelagia.

A Fodele holiday provides an idyllic setting with marvellous views.  It offers a relaxing break from the rigours of life, in a village where the pace of life is far removed from the twentieth century. Although the village has provided amenities for holiday makers, it has not lost its traditional charm.  There is also a wooded park nearby which is enhanced by a small river  called "Pantomantris" which flows through all year round and is home to a resident flora and fauna swan population.  Mountains lie beyond to complete an idyllic rural setting which makes it an ideal location for relaxation.  Buildings are also limited to two storey in height, thus resulting in no unslightly apartment blocks disfiguring the landscape.

The visitor to Fodele can enjoy the Cretan favourites at the taverns of the village with a fish dish being a particular speciality or why not try a plate of meze, a Greek equivalent of Spanish tapas, consisting of such things as deep fried fish, stuffed vine leaves, pickles, olives and halloumi cheese.

In Fodele there are two beaches, one is a commercial beach on the bay with hotels and taverna's which can be reached from the main road and the other, more unspoilt western beach can only be reached from the village itself.    Fodele beach which is less than 2 miles away is the most attractive in the area and offers a variety of water sports or you can simply 'chill out' using the free deck chairs.  There are numerous tavernas lining the waterfront.

Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands.  It is located in the most southerly part of Europe and as a result enjoys a very warm climate with hot summers, warm winters and 300 days of sunshine.  Crete is nearer to Africa than mainland Greece.  It is different from many other mediterranean regions being very green and mountainous.

There is also a water park nearby and a fine PGA golf course which is approximately 45 minutes by road.

For those wanting a wider range of shops you can take a scenic bus ride to the city of Heraklion which deserves its reputation as one of the mediterranean's most attractive capitals.  It is also a shopping paradise for lovers of fashion and furnishings and the port of Heraklion is also well worth a visit.

There are public buses to the town and there are many opportunities for excursions to some of the ancient sites as well as boat trips to Spinalonga and even to Santorini.
